Pre A1 Starters practice for teachers
Pre A1 Starters is the first step in the Cambridge young learners pathway. Teachers at this level need very short, visual, low-pressure practice. A page with three or four items and lots of familiar words works better than a long worksheet.
What to focus on
- Everyday vocabulary: colours, animals, family, food, school objects
- Very simple present-tense sentences and there is / there are
- Short instructions and one-word or one-phrase answers
- Confidence with the format before the content gets harder
How to build practice from your coursebook
Keep each page to one topic
Drop a coursebook picture page on animals or the classroom and ask for a short set: a vocabulary block, three fill-in-the-gap sentences and one multiple-choice question.
Use the vocabulary block as a picture dictionary
Add your own image links next to the words so pupils match sound, word and picture at home.
Repeat topics weekly
Reuse the same topic with a new page each week. Repetition matters more than novelty at this level.
Grammar topics up to A1
Ready-made explanations and exercises. Use them as they are, or as a model for the page you build.
